Eric M. Balicky, Ph.D.
Eric Balicky has been a Patent Agent with the firm for more than seven years and practices in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemistry areas, with an emphasis on preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patents and IP due diligence. Eric has also assisted in patent and trademark litigation, trademark prosecution, and the preparation of freedom to operate, patentability, non-infringement and invalidity opinions.
Prior to joining the firm, Eric conducted his graduate research in Cell Biology and Genetics, focusing on meiotic chromosome segregation. His research, which utilized Drosophila melanogaster as a model genetic system, incorporated molecular, genetic, cytological and biochemical techniques to characterize the role of the Orientation Disruptor (ORD) protein in promoting normal sister-chromatid cohesion and chromosome condensation during meiosis. He was the recipient of an NIH training grant award.
As an undergraduate, Eric assisted in developing a novel technique for analyzing differential mRNA expression while participating in an NSF-sponsored research program at Carnegie-Mellon University. He also completed a senior research project in Developmental Biology at Allegheny College for which he was awarded honors by the Department of Biology.
Eric has co-authored several published articles and abstracts. His research articles have appeared in Molecular Biology of the Cell, Chromosoma, and Current Biology.
