Pamela A. Torpey

Pamela Torpey is an Associate with the firm and practices in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemistry and medical device industries with domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution.

Prior to joining the firm, Pamela was responsible for the intellectual property portfolio of The Collaborative Group, Ltd. in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where her responsibilities included drafting patent applications; managing technology licensing; developing intellectual property strategies; and assisting with potential infringement opinions and freedom to operate analyses. Previously, while serving as Intellectual Property Associate at Alpha-Beta Technology, Inc., a biotechnology company in Worcester, Massachusetts, she conducted novelty and prior art searches, maintained databases for research notebooks, manuscripts and agreements; and gained extensive experience in negotiating license agreements; as well as working closely with inventors and outside counsel in the filing and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications.

Earlier, Pamela was a senior research associate in the Biotechnology Group at Alpha-Beta Technology, where she researched, designed, developed and executed experiments that contributed various project strategies, as well as creating and developing new methods and technologies for project advancement, including the functional purification or characterization of β-glucanase from P. pinophilum culture and elucidation and characterization of a β-glucan receptor.

Pamela, writing under her maiden name, P.A. Fish, co-authored “A Novel Carbohydrate-Glycosphingolipid Interaction Between a Beta-(1-3)-Glucan Immunomodulator, PGG-Glucan, and Lactosylceramide of Human Leukocytes,” J. Biol. Chem., 273(34):22014-20 (Aug. 21, 1998). She also presented a portion of this work at the Gordon Conference in Mycology.
