Susan M. Abelleira

Susan Abelleira has focused her practice in the areas of patent prosecution and portfolio development in the fields of chemistry and pharmaceuticals. She has also assisted in freedom to operate assessments and preparation of patentability and validity opinions.

Susan's clients benefit from her personal industry experience. Prior to joining Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, Susan worked for six years at Alkermes, Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts. At Alkermes, she was a Research Scientist, whose specialty was synthetic medicinal chemistry; her areas of research included synthesis of peptides and small molecules with biological activity. Susan was also responsible for directing the research activities of the Biochemical Pharmacology Department. Susan co-authored numerous research publications resulting from her scientific work at Alkermes. Prior to working for Alkermes, she worked for the International Fortune 100 Company, W.R. Grace & Co., as a chemist in New Product Development.
