Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds Recognized as Top Firm in New England for Life Science Patents

April 2011

Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds has been again recognized as the top patent firm in New England, and one of the top ten in the nation, for quality of patents in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and biotechnology arts.  The study of patent quality, titled "Quality Counts," was conducted by a leading economic consulting firm, Ocean Tomo, and was published this month by Intellectual Asset Management magazine.  Significantly, this is the second year that this study has been undertaken and in each year the results have been the same: Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds was tops in New England and ranked in the top ten firms nationally.

The study was not an attempt to measure volume of patents filed, or to quantify the number of patents granted based on work by particular firms but, instead, was a measure of the quality of issued patents by firms prosecuting patents in the United States.  More specifically, the study sought to determine the quality of the patents based on objective economic metrics.  Our firm's high ranking shows that clients consistently turn to us to obtain quality patents for their most important inventions.

"Our firm's consistent high ranking again demonstrates the intelligence, creativity, and hard work our attorneys and patent agents bring to bear in drafting and obtaining patents for our pharmaceutical, healthcare, and biotechnology clients," said Dave Brook, a founding partner of Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds.  "It is true," Brook added, "quality counts.  In fact, that has been the basis for our business for over 30 years."

Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds provides comprehensive intellectual property legal services in all technologies ranging from life sciences to computers and electronics, as well as complex IP litigation.
