Firm to Sponsor SBANE Event: SBIR Targeted Technologies (START) - The First 3 Years of Observations, Results and a Few Surprises

When
June 18, 2014

Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds is pleased to be a sponsor of the Smaller Business Association of New England's (SBANE) 2013-2014 Breakfast Series, which provides monthly seminars on various topics.  SBANE's event, "SBIR Targeted Technologies (START): The First 3 Years of Observations, Results and a Few Surprises" was held on June 18, 2014 from 7:30 - 9:00am at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA.

SBANE Event Description:

SBANE was critical in getting legislation in the Life Sciences Act of 2008 to provide match funding to Massachusetts companies that had obtained SBIR / STTR awards. In the excitement of getting the Life Sciences Center off the ground, this provision got overlooked, particularly for technology and materials companies. In 2011, spurred on by SBANE, MassVentures took over the reins of implementing the program. Working with the SBANE Technology & Innovation Committee and other recipients of DOD, NSF and other agencies outside of NIH and DOE, MassVentures designed a program for SBIR Targeted Technologies, called “START”, which was first implemented in 2012.

Jerry Bird, President of MassVentures, will discuss the streamlined application process and judging.  Please join us to hear his observations on the three years of the program, including what makes a successful application, what the judges are really looking for and surprises that have come out of the program.
